Analysts laud country’s first ever National Security Policy
December 28, 2021

Najam ul Saqib (Former Ambassador) The 'Comprehensive National Security' policy is yet to be unveiled before the public and no one can offer a prophecy about it. Still, it is a constructive development in the history of Pakistan as National Security Policy is indispensable for every country to ensure its survival by curbing tacit or explicit existential threats. Moreover, the civil and military leadership of Pakistan have jotted down their consensus on a single docket. The rationale behind formulation of this policy can be depicted from the fact that Pakistan has focused its shift from geo-politics to geo-economics. Thus, while pursuing geo-economic policies to achieve relevant goals Pakistan will face obstacles at tactical level. So, to counter those tactical hurdles this policy document will help in devising a mitigation strategy. It will be a sweeping statement if this policy is termed as guiding principle for Foreign and Nuclear Policy as the precursors of such policies are always in influx and intangible. Overall, the recently approved Comprehensive National Security Policy will incur a policy spectrum for deterring traditional as well as non-traditional security threats.

Dr Syed Hussain Shaheed Soherwordi (Journalist at The News/IR Expert): The National Security Committee should be lauded for achieving the milestone of devising a conclusive document about National Security policy in 16 long years. Previously, the lack of innovations in the policy framework has confined our statesmen's as well as national's vision of national security as strengthening of military muscle. The issues of like climate change, gender discrimination and other issues that were considered as discussions of low politics will be conglomerated with high politics. As the policy itself is multifaceted, thus the input is also taken from different ministries. So, the bureaucratic as well as the organizational interests of the ministries will become coherent and will conclude into acquisition of National  interest goals.

Brig Retd Harris Nawaz  (Defense Analyst)  It was very clear since the unceremonious exodus of US from Afghanistan that the US will use tools of economic subversion to cover up their humiliation. The US as well as its ally states are coercing Afghanistan in devising the structural stratification and functional specifications of new Afghanistan in accordance with their policy dictations. The little US knows that an unstable Afghanistan might fall back in the hands of anarchist organizations like ISIS, ETIM etc. The US is not de-freezing Afghanistan's funds in the pretense of Human Rights issues. Conversely, the US itself has inflicted unabated Human Rights abuses and infrastructural destructions in Afghanistan. Thus, it is the moral obligation of the US and the UN to clean up their mess. Pakistan is vigilant of the fact that the US has always wanted an unstable Afghanistan to coerce Pakistan. The Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has overtly communicated to the world that Pakistan wants peace across the region. The MENA countries that were being considered as the well-wishers of Afghanistan are also waiting for a green signal from the US. It is high time that the 57 Muslim states across the globe should unite for a common cause while leaving behind their parochial national interest to challenges the shackles of western world order.

Brig Retd Mahmood Shah (IR Expert)  The commencement of the extraordinary session of OIC is an inexplicable diplomatic triumph of Pakistan at international level. It is quite evident that the stance of US and its allies has been softened following the diplomatic pressure mustered up by virtue of Pakistan. The PTI-led government should be extolled for their commendable efforts for war torn Afghanistan. Afghanistan has remained as a graveyard of Great Empires and even in the contemporary era, the two superpowers have brought havoc to the land of Afghan people. The recent takeover of Taliban embraced severe economic lapse and there are apprehensions that if left unattended it might turn into a humanitarian crisis. The Western powers have always tried to destabilize the third world countries by dividing them on the basis of border demarcations. The west should stop insinuating the border conflicts and should focus on appeasement policy to repent their demonic activities.
