Analysts hail strong commitment and economic strategy of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif
May 27, 2022

Dr. Rasheed Ahmad Khan (IR Expert): It is a long standing vision of PML-N government and especially the Prime Minister to work for economic development of Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is of the opinion that problems faced by Pakistan are diverse and complex and it is better to take nation into confidence for evolving a consensus. This position is endorsed by whole nation of Pakistan. The previous government used solo flight and did not bother to take into account the real problems of economy. It is hoped that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan will come out of these crises. At this point of time, national unity is needed to resolve the issues being faced by nation.

Dr. Zahid Anwar Khan (IR Expert): Pakistan is facing a number of internal and external challenges at the moment. The address of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to the nation to apprise them of government’s strategy is of vital importance. If we look at economy, we see there are a number of challenges. The political stability in the country also puts strain on stock exchange as well as other economic indicators. It is need of the hour that these challenges are resolved in consensus with all stakeholders. National interest is supreme and it requires joint efforts to control inflation and external challenges. Pakistani nation is resilient and is able to cope with the challenges.

Raja Javed Ikhlas (Leader, PML-N): The country in 2013 was also facing many challenges when the PML-N government came to power. The then Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif turned round the economy during his tenure by achieving big growth, starting of CPEC as well as other infrastructure projects. Unfortunately, the sit-in in 2014 put a dent on the economy. When the PTI government came to power, the PML-N extended the proposal of Charter of Democracy but it was turned down by them. Instead, the leadership of PTI was only focused on making speeches. Today, all economists agree that current malaise of economy can be traced to the bad governance and wrong economic policies of the PTI-led government. Our relations with friendly countries including China, Turkey, UAE and Saudi Arabia suffered badly during the tenure of PTI. The incumbent government led by PML-N is determined to ameliorate the situation and it is taking bold decisions to take the country forward.
