Afghanistan: Local traders severely affected by Taliban regime's flawed policies
May 17, 2026

In Afghanistan, local traders have been severely affected by the Taliban regime's flawed policies, which have caused thousands of tons of goods and agriculture produces to spoil.

The Taliban regime's extremism and failed policies have devastated the Afghan economy, while ongoing border closures have bankrupted Afghan traders.

Due to the closure of trade routes from Afghanistan to neighboring countries, agricultural goods are piled up in the Paktika market.

Along with the Pak-Afghan border, the Iranian border is also closed, and the incompetent Taliban regime has completely failed to provide alternative routes or economic relief to struggling traders.

In a viral video, a trader from Paktika says the potato crop is exceptionally too much and every trader is trying to export it to Iran; however, the Iranian border remains closed. He further said that traders are simply sitting on sacks of potatoes waiting for customers, and the situation is extremely bad.

According to international experts, the Afghan Taliban regime's inflexible policies are causing serious damage to business, exports and employment in Afghanistan.
