NYT exposes true face of so-called Indian democracy
May 12, 2026

The American newspaper, ‘The New York Times’ has exposed the true face of the so-called Indian democracy by highlighting election rigging by Modi and the stirring up of anti-Muslim sentiments in West Bengal.

According to The New York Times, the Modi government undermined democracy by creating a pretense of democratic elections and declaring victory in the opposition-led state of West Bengal.

The newspaper reported that Modi secured Hindu votes by changing voter lists and inciting anti-Muslim sentiments.

It further said India is at risk of becoming a virtual one-party state dominated by Modi’s Hindu nationalist party, as the opposition has been left with almost no political power.

According to the report, under Modi’s influence, the Election Commission of India unfairly excluded the names of Muslim voters in Bihar and West Bengal.

The report also said that the Modi government is using state institutions to harass the opposition.

According to international experts, by suppressing dissent and undermining institutional impartiality in India, Narendra Modi has imposed an authoritarian system.
