Analyst hails Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi defence
October 31, 2026

Eng. Khurram Dastgir Khan (Former Defence Minister):Israeli and the US strikes on Iran created a security vacuum in the Middle East. This security vacuum was further magnified by the Israel strike on Qatar while peace talks were underway between Israel and some other countries. US military bases in Middle Eastern countries were supposed to act like a security umbrella against foreign attacks but these bases failed to defend Middle Eastern countries against Israeli and Iranian attacks. Then the US proved to be unwilling to keep the Straits of Hormuz open by using enormous military resources. Therefore, there was a vacuum in terms of security or straits of Hormuz so Makkah Accord gained additional salient significance as Turkiye and Pakistan, two most advanced military powers, are now in a defence pact with Saudi Arabia.  So, Director General ISPR, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, is very right to say that Pakistan remains committed to the defence of Saudi Arabia and Harmain Sharifain as per obligations and relationship with the Kingdom. It means that Pakistan will continue coming up to defence agreement with Saudi Arabia for the defence of Harmain Sharifain. I think that more countries can join this pact because they are also sensing Makkah Accord as effective security umbrella. I will be harbinger of future defence and security architecture for Middle East. It also sends powerful signals to our adversaries Israel and India about defence deterrence. Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry is also very right to say that Pakistan is cautiously optimistic regarding mediation between Iran and the United States because Pakistan has done marvelous mediation in the past between both the countries. Now Pakistan wants that US- Iran war may not be Arab-Iran war in future. So Pakistan is convincing Iran not to pursue constant hostilities. Pakistan is also convincing Iran to join regional unity and harmony.
