Amb. A M Shahid (Former Diplomat):Houthis’ attacks are on Saudi holy cities Makkah and Madina are condemnable and whole Muslim world is condemning these attacks. Under Makkah Agreement and bilateral defence pact, Pakistan is very much present in Saudi Arabia to defend Saudi Arabia from Houthis’s attacks. Other members of Makkah Agreement are also required to play their due role in Saudi Arabian defence. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, along with Saudi and Turkish high officials, is in Iran discussing the mechanism to resolve this issue with Iranian leadership. Pakistan has been trying to mediate between the US and Iran in past and still carrying out mediatory efforts in this regard.   I think that Iran has immense influence over Houthis and can press Houthis to stop carrying out attacks on Saudi Arabia.  Unfortunately, Yemeni Houthis have several groups like Afghan Taliban; therefore, main Houthi group is denying carrying out attacks on Saudi Arabia, and smaller group affiliated with Houthis has carried out attack on Saudi Arabia. Every Muslim on the earth is condemning Houthis’ attacks on Saudi Arabia. No one is taking these attacks on Saudi Arabia as Houthis’ strategic move to get their demands met by carrying out attacks on holy cities of Makkah and Madina. This is why, the main Houthi group is denying carrying out attacks on Makkah and Madina and saying that local commanders don’t always follow commands of main group. Although, Pakistan is not entering Yemen or Yemeni politics, yet Pakistan is defending Saudi Arabia under Makkah Agreement and bilateral defence pact. Pakistan also expect a similarly role from other members of Makkah Agreement so GCC, OIC and other Muslim organizations must put their efforts in this regard. Houthis should also understand the anger of Muslim world as whole Muslim world is condemning Houthis’ attacks on holy cities of Makkah and Madina.
