The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province for two months, banning swimming and boating in rivers, dams, lakes, canals and ponds.

According to the Home Department spokesman, the lives of children and young people are at serious risk while swimming during the monsoon season, as water levels are high in rivers, canals and other water bodies.

The measure has been taken to protect human lives under the current weather conditions.

According to the notification, swimming or taking a bath in accumulated rainwater on streets, roads and in public places will also be prohibited under Section 144.
