PM Shehbaz to raise Pakistan’s challenges at UNGA: Analysts
September 17, 2026

Dr. Muhammad Khan (IR Expert):  United Nations’ General Assembly session is commencing tomorrow and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will also address the UNGA session. In his address, Prime Minister will definitely highlight issues pertaining to Pakistan because Pakistan is an important country trying to bring peace and harmony between Iran and the US since the beginning of conflict. Most recently, escalation in Middle East has intensified while as per Makkah Agreement, Pakistan, Turkiye and Saudi Arabia is bound to defend each other against any foreign aggression. Houthis’ attacks on Saudi Arabia are matter of grave concern for the whole Muslim world so Pakistan definitely wishes to resolve this issue through negotiations. Pakistan desires resolution of all issues and conflicts peacefully. Pakistan also wants peace and stability in the Middle East. However, India is posturing aggression and yesterday Indian Navy violated Pakistan’s maritime boundaries. This gesture shows Indian heinous intensions in the region. India has also exploited Indus Waters Treaty after Pahalgam false flag operation. Moreover, Pakistan is also being targeted from Afghanistan and Afghan Taliban regime has turned hostile towards Pakistan on behalf of India. India, Afghan sponsored terrorism is targeting people in our Khyber Pukhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces. So, hopefully Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will take up all these issues in his address to UNGA. India and Israel have a nexus of terrorism against Pakistan and Muslim countries. Indian posture towards neighbouring countries is very aggressive.  India has so many issues with Pakistan and China; however, both Pakistani and Chinese militaries have defeated India separately. Now India is facing diplomatic and strategic isolation in South Asia, Asia and in the world.

Dr. Zahid Anwar Khan (IR Expert):  Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will leave for US next week to address United Nations’ General Assembly session. Prime Minister’s address is significant in the background of changing global order, Iran-US tensions and geopolitical environment. Pakistan’s diplomacy has been very successful as Pakistan maintains close ties with US, Iran, China, Russia and other regional and international blocs. Pakistan is also important country in global south and Pakistan and China are playing effective role in development of global south. In result of Prime Minister’s address to the UNGA, Pakistan will gain its objectives in the world politics. Moreover, Makkah Agreement is an important development and Pakistan has emerged as a key security provider in Middle East. Now Pakistan has become a stakeholder in Middle Eastern peace and stability. Pakistani people are happy over this agreement because every Muslim wants to play due role in defence of holy places. As per this agreement, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye will get economic support and strategic strength from each other. Now other Muslim countries also want to join this pact.
