Analysts slam India’s war crimes against humanity and genocide in IIOJ&K
August 09, 2021

Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Raza Muhammad Khan (Defense Analyst): I totally agree with the statement of President Azad Jammu and Kashmir that India does not deserve to be a member of the United Nations Security Council as it is committing worst genocide in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. India has deployed 900,000 troops to crush the Kashmiris’ legitimate freedom struggle. In addition, settlers from outside Jammu and Kashmir are being brought in to change the region's demography. India stands in complete violation of the UN Security Council resolutions in disputed state of Jammu and Kashmir and is not giving the Kashmiris their right to self-determination. Indian induction in UN as permanent member would not make the Security Council more effective.

Dr. Rasul Bakhsh Rais (IR Expert): The only tool that works in the world politics is power and influence. In past, Indian officials were banned because of their human rights violations not only in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir but in other parts of India as well. It is unfortunate that Pakistan was not given an opportunity to address the council as a neighboring country with direct stake in peace in Afghanistan. It is so because India has been given presidency of the UNSC for one month. We must not expect fairness from India in the UNSC. Islamabad would never allow its soil to be used against Afghanistan and we expect the same from Afghanistan. The allegations on Pakistan in this regard are baseless and aimed at defaming Pakistan in the world.

Brig. (Retd.) Mehmood Shah (Defense Analyst): It is a fact that the United States has been completely defeated in Afghanistan and recent bombing campaign shows its frustration. United States should have made arrangements for intra-Afghan dialogue but Washington left Afghanistan in a hurry, leaving the country in a state of chaos and anarchy. Pakistan facilitated the dialogue between Afghan Taliban and the United States at the request of Donald Trump who was US president at that time. But unfortunately, Pakistan was not invited in the ongoing UNSC meeting over Afghan situation. United States wanted to monitor China, Russia and other neighboring countries by staying in Afghanistan, but faced huge financial as well as human losses. Pakistan has always worked for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan as peace and stability in Pakistan is directly linked with peace and stability in the neighboring country.

Arshad Yousafzai (Expert on Afghan Affairs): Pakistan has been striving for the last many years for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan and is still vying for the same. It was Pakistan that facilitated the peace process between Afghan Taliban and the United States. Unfortunately, the perception exists, specifically in West, that Taliban are being controlled by Islamabad which is completely against the ground realities. Pakistani Foreign Minister has rightly identified the elements that are playing the role of peace spoiler in Afghanistan. These militants in Afghanistan are being financed and sponsored by such elements. However, the role of Pakistan in the region can never be downplayed as it is already hosting a huge number of Afghan refugees.
