Afghanistan faces growing international isolation due to the Taliban regime's undemocratic and violent policies.

According to the international magazine The Diplomat, the United States has not recognized Taliban regime as the legitimate government of Afghanistan since its withdrawal from the country in 2021.

It reported that the Trump administration has suspended all U.S. assistance to Afghanistan since the middle of 2025.  The United States has also halted the issuance of all categories of visas for Afghan citizens, including the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV).
