Today marks 42 years since the worst massacre of Sikhs took place
November 01, 2026

Today marks forty-two years since November 1st, 1984, a painful and shameful chapter in Indian history, when the worst massacre of Sikhs took place.

Following the assassination of Indira Gandhi on 31st October, 1984, the massacre of Sikhs began and continued unchecked for three days.

During the anti-Sikh riots, thousands of innocent Sikhs were killed, while hundreds of women were subjected to sexual violence.

These riots were not only violence against the Sikh community but also a deep attack on human rights and basic fundamental values.

International media and journals termed this massacre of Sikhs as shameful. According to The Diplomat, extremist Hindus used voter lists to selectively target and murder Sikhs.

Human Rights Watch stated that a systematic campaign of genocide was carried out against Sikhs under the patronage of the Indian government.
