President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering diplomatic, political and moral support to the Kashmiri people for their inalienable right to self-determination.

They reiterated the resolve, in their separate messages, on Youm-e-Ilhaq-e-Pakistan (the Accession to Pakistan Day) being observed today to mark the historic adoption of a resolution by the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference in Srinagar on this day in 1947.

The resolution expressed the Kashmiri people's desire for the State's accession to Pakistan and called upon the Dogra rulers to respect the will of the people.

The President and the Prime Minister said this day reminds us of the deep-rooted historical, cultural and spiritual bonds between the people of Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir.

They said the Jammu and Kashmir dispute has remained unresolved for decades despite the relevant UN Security Council resolutions recognising the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination.

The President and Prime Minister said the continued denial of this fundamental right, coupled with persistent human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), remains a matter of serious concern.

They highlighted that Pakistan has consistently advocated a peaceful and just resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

They urged the international community, particularly the United Nations, to fulfill its responsibility by ensuring the realisation of  Kashmiri people's right to self-determination as this unresolved dispute continues to have profound implications for regional peace and security.

They saluted the courage and resilience of the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir who have made immense sacrifices in pursuit of their legitimate rights.
