Analyst hails govt for standing with KSA against Houthis

- Dr. Abdullah Gul (Defence Analyst): Both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have realization that confrontation between Saudi Arabia and Houthis is a trapbecause international news agency Reuters is reporting meetings between Houthis and US officials in Oman. Even US President Donald Trump has confirmed meetings at US in Oman. These developments raise a large number of questions about US role in the region because US says that it doesn’t hold talks with terrorist groups. In this background, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has very rightly said in his interview with Arab News that Pakistan can’t reveal the details of Makkah Agreement before the world. Moreover, terms and conditions of defence pacts are never made public to the people. He also made it clear that Makkah Pact is not for aggressive purposes and it is aimed to create a security situation in Middle East for economic development and progress. However, DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry also said that Pakistan will go to any extent in defending sovereignty of Saudi Arabia. No doubt both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have stood shoulder to shoulder with each other in hard times. Pakistan gets a lot of economic support from Saudi Arabia while Pakistan supports Saudi Arabia in defence sector. Pakistani troops are deployed in Saudi Arabia since long. Actually, every Pakistani will fight against any attack on holy places in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has sent a clear message to the world that Pakistan will leave no stone unturned in defence of Saudi Arabia. However, I think that confrontation between Houthis and Saudi Arabia is an attempt to divide Muslims and rule. Now situation in the region that US is pulling forces out of Middle East and a new war zone is emerging. It is also questionable that Houthis allowed Israeli and US ships to navigate through the Bab al Mandab but blocked navigation of ships from Arab world. I think that now world has very good understanding about forces and countries behind this game plan. Social media accounts running from India are spreading doubts about Makkah Agreement but question is why India failed to react against Iran over Iranian strikes on UAE because both India and UAE had signed defence agreement.
