Analyst hails govt for achieving economic stability
September 18, 2026

Dr. Usman Chohan (Economic Expert):  Pakistan’s economy is very resilient against crisis as Pakistan successfully handled economic meltdown due to Iran, US confrontation, Ukraine war and even COVID calamity. Therefore, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has rightly expressed satisfaction over State Bank of Pakistan's foreign exchange reserves reaching a historic high of 21.4 billion dollars. He described this development as another historic milestone toward economic stability. I think that expression of satisfaction over economic progress from our leadership is a good gesture. Flow of remittance is very important to cut size of current account deficit. In this regard government has to focus on boosting exports and attracting more and more foreign direct investment. It is very positive that Pakistan is gaining certainty in the inflow of foreign remittances from proactive Pakistani diaspora. It is very good that Pakistan is part of IMF program because IMF program helps Pakistan in hard economic times. Pakistan can use cushion of IMF loan as foreign exchange inflowing into country. It is important to have pace and momentum of inflow of remittances intact because it is main source of foreign exchange reserves as major portion of our foreign exchange goes into payments for import of petroleum products.
