August 18, 2026

Protests have been held in 24 cities across several countries against Afghan Taliban regime’s five-year rule.

In several cities, Afghans took to the streets and chanted slogans against the Taliban, while protest camps were set up and petition campaigns and hunger strikes were also organized.

According to Afghan media reports, the protesters opposed normalizing relations with the Taliban regime and demanded the protection of women’s rights.

A large protest by Afghan refugees was held at Queen’s Park in Toronto, Canada, where protesters chanted slogans against the Taliban.

The protesters demanded an end to gender discrimination, the protection of freedom of expression and freedom of the press, and accountability for the Taliban regime over human rights violations.

In Amsterdam, protesters called on the Netherlands and the European Union not to recognize the Taliban and to prioritize the rights of Afghan women.

Afghans also held a protest rally in front of the United Nations office in Geneva, where strong slogans were chanted against the Taliban regime.

In the German cities of Stuttgart and Hamburg, protesters called on the international community and the German government to hold the Taliban regime accountable.
