Amb. A M Shahid (Former Diplomat):Visit of King of Jordan King Abdullah-II ibn Al Hussein to Pakistan is very significant and important because both the countries enjoy fraternal bilateral ties in almost all important sectors. In his meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari, King will discuss the important issue of Palestine peace. Apart from that issues of mutual interest of bilateral and international nature will also come under discussion. I hope this visit will further cement the bilateral ties between Pakistan and Jordan. I think that King will also discuss the forthcoming resolution at UN regarding Gaza peace plan with Pakistani leadership. Jordan and Pakistan have longstanding historical bilateral ties and we expect that these relations will further be expanded and cooperation be promoted in result of this visit. Pakistan has a vital role at OIC, UN and supporting issues related to Muslim countries. Now Muslim countries are looking towards Pakistan for defence support. Muslim countries are also willing to expand business cooperation with Pakistan. So Pakistan will also play a major in resolving the issues related to Muslim world. Actually active engagement of Pakistani leadership has lifted Pakistan’s stature in the comity of the nations. We hope that his momentum will continue and Pakistan will gain more and more importance in the global issues in future.
Amb. Waheed Ahmad (Former Diplomat): Relations between Pakistan have been historically cordial since ever. We have close cooperation in strategic, economic and cultural sectors. Our security personnel also carry out frequent exhanges with Jordan and we also offer numerous services to Jordanians in defence and strategic sector. Our fertilizers, textile and other economic organizations have also established outlets in Jordan. Pakistan also enjoys numerous benefits and exemptions on some products. This visit is taking place after a long period therefore it is very important; King Shah Hussain paid first visit to Pakistan and now King Abdullah is paying this visit and it is a welcoming development. Pakistan and Jordan have already signed numerous memorandums of understanding and bilateral exchanges under these MoUs are very common and frequent. However, I think that a number of agreements and MoUs will also be inked during this visit. Actually Jordan is following defence policy chalked out by Pakistani experts and it shows closeness of bilateral ties. We have also been offering protection to Jordan along with training of security and armed personnel. Thus, we are happy on having the King of Jordan in our country.
