The eleventh death anniversary of veteran Kashmiri leader, former President and Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Muhammad Abdul Qayyum Khan was observed on Friday.
Born on April 04, 1924, in Poonch, he was the main architect of the base camp for Kashmir freedom movement and the creator of the slogan "Kashmir Bane Ga Pakistan."
He created awareness in the entire Kashmiri nation with his ideas, wisdom and unparalleled leadership. He also provided an organized, sustainable and institutional foundation for the Kashmir freedom movement.
Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan took the first practical step in the freedom struggle from the historical peaks of Nila Butt on August 23, 1947.
Owing to his military skills and leadership ability, Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan organized the former state military personnel and raised a force. Later, this force transformed itself into the first Azad Kashmir Battalion and later the famous 'Qayyum Brigade' consisting of six regiments.
The former President and Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir will always be remembered in the history of Kashmir for his unprecedented services for the people of Azad Kashmir and the historic role that he played in the freedom struggle.
As the President and Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan highlighted the national identity and the Kashmir issue at the international level.
Sardar Muhammad Abdul Qayyum Khan passed away in Islamabad on this day in 2015 at the age of ninety-one.
