Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has handed over the keys of fifty electric vehicles to the Islamabad Police to promote modern, safe and environment-friendly policing.

He handed over the keys to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Inspector General of Islamabad Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi at a ceremony in the Federal Capital today.

Addressing the ceremony, the Prime Minister said the protection of the lives and property of citizens is government's foremost priority.

He said the government is providing all possible resources to equip the Islamabad Police with modern policing capabilities.

Appreciating Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi's performance in modernizing the Islamabad Police, Shehbaz Sharif said the Islamabad Police should serve as a role model for other cities of the country.

He said the police force is being equipped with modern technology, equipment and other necessary resources to provide a safe environment to citizens in the federal capital.

The Prime Minister said the provision of new electric vehicles aims to promote environment-friendly and green policing. He added that the use of modern technology would further improve police performance and services being provided to citizens.

On the occasion, the Inspector General of Islamabad Police gave the Prime Minister a detailed briefing on the newly established Capital Patrol force, formed to strengthen security in the federal capital.

The Prime Minister was informed that the new force has been established in line with his vision of a safe, smart and green capital. The Capital Patrol force will comprise a total of two hundred police personnel.

It was further informed that each patrol unit will include one male and one female police officer. The force will also include motorcycle-riding police personnel to ensure rapid response and effective patrolling in different areas.

The Prime Minister was informed that all personnel of the Capital Patrol force will be equipped with body cameras to enhance transparency, monitoring and accountability in policing.

It was apprised that fifty electric vehicles have been provided for the Capital Patrol force. All the vehicles are electrically powered, which will significantly reduce fuel costs and have a positive impact on the environment.

The Prime Minister was informed that the use of the new electric vehicles would result in monthly savings of around 34 million rupees in fuel costs. The cost of each vehicle would be recovered through fuel savings in approximately ten and a half months.

The Prime Minister appreciated the Islamabad Police's measures for using modern technology, promoting green policing and ensuring the protection of citizens.

He directed that all necessary steps be taken to further strengthen and make the modern policing system more effective.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Minister of State Talal Chaudhry were also present on the occasion.
