Dr. A Z Hilali (IR Expert):Unfortunately, Indus Water Treaty (IWT) remains suspended by Indian side unilaterally. Hague based the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the case between Romania against Yugoslavia, has given a clear cut verdict that no mutual or bilateral treaty signed by two parties that remains intact for decades and abided by both the parties, can be ruled out by any party, state or a person. Same applies on the Indian side as India suspended the IWT unilaterally and Pakistan contested it. As per ICJ verdict India can’t suspend IWT unilaterally. Pakistan has also taken this issue at UN because India is committing grave violation of international values, norms and laws.
