At the United Nations, Pakistan says Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory, and its final status remains to be determined in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people, as enshrined in numerous resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.
Exercising his right of reply in response to Indian delegate's remarks during General Debate of Third Committee of the UN General Assembly, First Secretary Sarfaraz Ahmed Gohar said numerous resolutions of the United Nations Security Council guarantee the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination.
He said India is in gross violation of its international legal obligations by persistently failing and refusing to implement these immutable Security Council resolutions.
The First Secretary said Jammu and Kashmir has never been, is not, and will never be a so-called “inalienable” part of India. India must comply with its international obligations to settle the dispute in accordance with the Security Council resolutions and stop suppressing the rights and freedoms of people in the occupied territory under its illegal control.
He said Pakistan remains firmly committed to dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful settlement of disputes in accordance with the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations. India would be well advised to also follow that path in the interest of regional peace, security and stability, and the prosperity and well-being of the over 1.5 billion people that resides in South Asia.
