
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the authorities concerned to expedite the process of reforms in the health sector.
He was presiding over an emergency meeting in Islamabad today [Wednesday] regarding the Ministry of National Health Services and the PIMS fire incident shortly after returning from Kyrgyzstan.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed on the issues related to the health sector, with a particular focus on the ongoing investigation into the fire incident at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.
The Prime Minister said no leniency would be shown towards the officials found guilty of criminal negligence.
He also ordered authorities to ensure improvement in healthcare and treatment facilities at PIMS and to strictly implement all necessary safety measures.
The Prime Minister directed both the Health Minister and the Secretary Health to ensure their presence at PIMS on alternate days and oversee the implementation of measures to improve the hospital under their supervision.
The meeting was informed that implementation of the Prime Minister's decisions in light of the findings of the interim investigation report is being ensured.
Minister for Health Syed Mustafa Kamal, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Secretary Health Captain, Retired, Muhammad Mahmood, and Executive Director PIMS Dr. Muhammad Salman were also present in the meeting.
