The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom has raised fresh concerns over New Delhi’s treatment of religious minorities.

In a statement, USCIRF Chair Asif Mahmood welcomed the New Delhi High Court's decision to grant bail to Jagtar Singh Johal, after nearly nine years of unlawful suffering in arbitrary detention.

USCIRF urged the US government to press Indian authorities to conduct a full investigation into Jagtar Singh Johal’s detention and treatment and to hold perpetrators of such particularly severe violations accountable in accordance with the International Religious Freedom Act.
