June 23, 2026

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan will continue to play its due role in promoting lasting peace in the region.

Speaking during delegation-level talks with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian in Islamabad today, he said Pakistan and Iran are like brothers and that Islamabad would never let Tehran down in the true spirit of brotherhood.

Shehbaz Sharif also commended the resilience of the Iranian people and leadership during the crisis. He highlighted the role of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his outstanding contribution, which led to the ceasefire and the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding by Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump. He said he had signed the MoU in his capacity as mediator.

Shehbaz Sharif also thanked the brotherly countries of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt for their role in the process. He expressed his pleasure at welcoming the Iranian President and his delegation to Pakistan at his invitation.

The Prime Minister further reaffirmed Pakistan's resolve to strengthen bilateral relations across all spheres, including economic cooperation, trade, investment, and reconstruction.

He said Pakistan and Iran would work together for their mutual benefit by leveraging their respective strengths. He added that the two countries would jointly promote peace, stability, and prosperity not only in the region but across the Middle East, the Gulf, and South Asia.
