April 21, 2026

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif says the Pakistan Muslim League-N has an unmatched record of development and public service in Gilgit-Baltistan.

He was addressing a meeting of the PML-N Parliamentary Board for Gilgit-Baltistan, attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.

Nawaz Sharif, who is also the President of the PML-N, expressed satisfaction over the presence of the party's entire leadership, calling it a reflection of unity and commitment to the region.

He said PML-N understands the needs of Gilgit-Baltistan better than any other party, highlighting major infrastructure projects undertaken during his tenure.

Referring to a road project worth over sixty billion rupees, he noted that it significantly reduced travel time from twenty-four hours to nearly ten hours, transforming connectivity and benefiting local communities.

Nawaz Sharif expressed confidence that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shares the same vision for the development of Gilgit-Baltistan and will continue to expand ongoing initiatives. He, however, urged local leadership to play a proactive role, stressing that they should not rely solely on federal funding but also generate resources and ensure effective utilization of budgets for public welfare.

Highlighting the tourism potential of areas like Skardu and Hunza, he said visitors from across the world are eager to explore Gilgit-Baltistan, and local authorities must actively contribute to promoting and developing this sector. He reaffirmed his strong attachment to Gilgit-Baltistan and pledged continued support for its progress and prosperity.

Nawaz Sharif reiterated that PML-N has always prioritized practical performance over political rhetoric. He said the party's contributions in development, governance and national defence are widely recognized. He added that Pakistan's international standing is improving once again under the current leadership.

The PML-N President also appreciated the contributions of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for elevating Pakistan's stature at the diplomatic level.
