The National Assembly was informed today that Shahdara and Dotara dams have been envisaged to address water shortages in the federal capital.

Responding to a Calling Attention Notice moved by Tamkeen Akhtar Niazi and others, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said WAPDA has prepared feasibility studies for both dams which will be completed within the next three to four years.

He further said a PC-I has also been prepared to replace Islamabad’s existing water pipelines with new ones. He said rainwater harvesting has been made compulsory for all new buildings, including houses, to tackle declining groundwater levels in the federal capital.

Responding to a point of order in the National Assembly, Minister for Water Resources Mueen Watto said all rivers are flowing normally and there is no imminent threat of flood in the country.

He said the water storage capacity in the Tarbela Dam is also normal.
