Pakistan to host historic US-Iran peace agreement ceremony in Geneva on Friday: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said Pakistan will host the historic US-Iran peace agreement ceremony in Geneva on Friday.

Speaking in the National Assembly, he announced that the peace deal between the United States and Iran has reached saying the two sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.

He expressed satisfaction that there is a dawn of peace following the night of war.

The Prime Minister noted that this is not merely an agreement between two countries, but a triumph of peace and diplomacy. He expressed appreciation to US President Donald Trump and the top Iranian leadership for demonstrating wisdom, vision and patience during a challenging period, enabling Pakistan and the international community to witness this positive development.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the constructive role played by the brotherly countries of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, China and others in advancing efforts toward peace.

Expressing satisfaction over the outcome, he said Pakistan’s sincere efforts to extinguish the flames of war and restore peace have borne fruit. He emphasized that the respect and recognition Pakistan has earned through its peace initiative are unprecedented in the country’s history. He remarked that the entire world witnessed the success of Pakistan’s efforts in promoting peace and stability.

The Prime Minister paid tribute to Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, for his extraordinary role and tireless efforts in helping achieve this milestone. He noted that despite ups and downs in the negotiation process, the Chief of Defence Forces remained steadfast to the pursuit of peace.

Referring to the impact of the US-Iran conflict on the global economy, including that of Pakistan, the Prime Minister said that the government took timely measures to shield the people, as far as possible, from inflationary pressures. He commended the nation for demonstrating resilience and patience during these difficult times.

The Prime Minister assured that every possible effort would be made to ensure that the economic dividends arising from the peace agreement reach the doorsteps of the Pakistani people.
