Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja has said that a simplified registration procedure, with minimum checks and balances, has been introduced to ensure that the maximum number of eligible people can benefit from the Prime Minister’s fuel relief scheme.

Flanked by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, she was addressing a news conference in Islamabad today.

She said the scheme is targeted at users of two- and three-wheelers, as well as vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc. Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive a fuel subsidy of one hundred rupees per litre.

Sharing details of the registration process, the Minister for Information Technology said eligible applicants can register from home by sending their CNIC number, plate number, the first letter of their province, and the vehicle’s registration date to 9771. She said this will complete the registration process.

She said before visiting a petrol station, registered beneficiaries will need to send TOK to 9771 to receive a fuel relief token. The fuel station will then provide the subsidized fuel upon seeing the token number.

The Information Minister said that this fuel relief scheme is meant for the deserving people in order to reduce their burden in the current situation. He said all options will be used to ensure greater awareness about the scheme. He mentioned that austerity measures are also being taken.

In his remarks, the Minister for Petroleum said that the government will provide twenty five billion rupees per month for the fuel relief scheme.

He said regardless of scarcity of resources, the government has tried to protect the weak segments of the society.
