Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has strongly criticised JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman's irresponsible statement, describing it as an insult to the sacrifices of the martyrs.

In a post on X handle, he said Maulana Fazlur Rehman is a seasoned politician and a respected religious leader and greater responsibility is expected from him in the choice of his words.

The Defence Minister said linking sacrifices of soldiers to their salaries is not only unfair but also hurts the sentiments of the martyrs and their families.

He said nobody lays down life merely for a salary. He said the sacrifice of life is driven by ideology, faith, a sense of duty and deep devotion to the homeland.

The Defence Minister said the war against terrorism is ongoing and personnel of Armed Forces, along with other institutions and civilians, continue to embrace martyrdom.
