Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the commencement of the 23rd FIFA World Cup, which kicks off today in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

In a post on X, he said it is a very special day for football fans around the world.

The Prime Minister said this global event is a celebration of sports’ unique ability to bring people together across borders, cultures, and nationalities.

He extended his best wishes to the host nations, the USA, Canada, and Mexico, as well as all participating nations, for a successful and memorable tournament.

He said Pakistan is proud to be part of this global celebration through its renowned sporting goods industry. He added that the official match balls, "Trionda", being used at this World Cup have been manufactured in Pakistan, reflecting the skill and craftsmanship of our people.

The Prime Minister expressed the hope that the tournament would inspire friendship, unity, and sporting excellence across the world.
