At the UN, Pakistan has called for sustained political support and investment in UN Peacekeeping.
The remarks were made by Pakistan's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Usman Jadoon while speaking at the Challenges Annual Forum's panel discussion on “Turning the Tide: Building Momentum for Peace Operations in a Demanding World".
Usman Jadoon noted that more than 270,000 Pakistani peacekeepers had served under the UN flag over the past six decades, with 183 making the ultimate sacrifice.
He said Pakistan supports reform and adaptation of peacekeeping to make it more agile, technologically capable and responsive to evolving conflict dynamics. However, he emphasized that reform should make peacekeeping more efficient, effective and usable, not hollow it out.
