Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved launch of "Apna Ghar Mehfooz Ghar" programme to help prevent tragedies caused by unsafe houses.

The approval was given during a meeting in Lahore today.

Under the new initiative, families living in dilapidated houses with unsafe roofs will receive up to five hundred thousand rupees for repairs, while interest-free loans of up to one million rupees will be provided on easy installments for house construction.

The meeting was informed that interest-free loans have been approved for over one hundred and eighty thousand homeless families, while loans have already been disbursed to one hundred and seventy thousand families.
