Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced giving an honorarium of twenty-five thousand rupees per month from next month to Imams of around seventy thousand mosques across the province.

Addressing a ceremony to distribute honorarium cards among the Imams of mosques in Lahore today, she said the project would cost 20 billion rupees per year. She said bank accounts for the distribution of honorarium have already been opened in the Bank of Punjab.

Maryam Nawaz said Imams of mosques, as custodians of religion, play a vital role in resolving social and religious issues and guiding people during times of joy and sorrow.

The Chief Minister Punjab said it is an honor for her to serve them.
