PDMA Punjab warns of high-level flood in Sutlej & Chenab Rivers

Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Punjab has warned of a high-level flood in the Sutlej and Chenab rivers.  

In a statement, Director General PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia said that extremely high flood levels are expected at Panjnad within the next twenty-four hours.

He further said that the situation of extremely high flood levels at Ganda Singh Wala on River Sutlej will persist.

He said flash flooding is also likely in hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur from Sunday till Wednesday.

Meanwhile, PDMA Punjab has issued a report on the recent floods in the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers.

In a statement, Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed said fifty people have died due to flood while more than four thousand and one hundred villages and over four point two million people have been affected.

He said that over two million people were rescued and shifted to safe places.

He further said that four hundred twenty-three relief camps, over five hundred medical camps, and four hundred thirty two veterinary camps have been set up in the affected districts.

The Relief Commissioner said currently, Mangla Dam is eighty percent full while Tarbela Dam is at full capacity.  

He said in India, Bhakra Dam is ninety percent full, Pong Dam ninety-nine percent while Thein Dam is ninety-seven percent full.

On the other hand, extensive mosquito repellent and disinfectant sprays are being carried out in flood relief camps across Punjab to protect victims from infectious diseases.

According to official sources, anti-fog and anti-dengue spraying has been initiated in relief camps and tent cities established in flood-affected areas.

Teams of Suthra Punjab have also been deployed to ensure cleanliness and hygiene.
