A M Shahid (Former Diplomat):Due to immense global and regional importance of Pakistan, candidate for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations Ambassador Olara Otunnu accompanied by Ruhakana Rugunda has held a meeting with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. I think that this visit reflects Pakistan’s growing importance in global affairs. Basically Olara Otunnu is canvasing for his election as general secretary UN and seeking Pakistan’s support. Factually, Pakistan is going to play key role in upcoming UN Secretary General elections. Likewise, Pakistani envoys at UN have been closely working with former UNSG on issues of global and regional importance. Actually, Pakistan wants to resolve all outstanding issues peacefully including Kashmir. Pakistan is an influential country and can convince other voter countries at UN also. Therefore, Olara Otunnu has come to Pakistan to seek support.
