At the United Nations, Pakistan has called for universal and equal application of human rights.
The call was made by Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan, Ambassador Usman Jadoon in a general debate in the Third Committee of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
He stressed that the credibility of the international human rights system depends on closing the gap between principles and their implementation.
Ambassador Usman Jadoon underscored that the immense suffering of the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza, remains a defining test of the international community's commitment to human rights and international law.
He called for the protection of civilians, unhindered humanitarian assistance, respect for international law and accountability, while reaffirming the Palestinian people's inalienable right to self-determination.
Usman Jadoon emphasized that the same principle of self-determination applies to the people of Jammu and Kashmir who have awaited for nearly eight decades the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions providing for the final disposition of the territory through a free and impartial plebiscite under UN auspices.
He said India's actions since 5 August 2019 have been accompanied by intensified repression, restrictions on fundamental freedoms and efforts to alter the demographic and political character of the occupied territory.
The Deputy Permanent Representative also highlighted the need to address Islamophobia, racism and xenophobia, stressing that human dignity must not depend on faith, nationality or identity. He recalled Pakistan's initiative that led to the designation of 15 March as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, as well as the appointment of the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy on the issue.
The Ambassador reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to dialogue, cooperation and the peaceful resolution of disputes, emphasizing that the international community must bridge the gap between the rights proclaimed at the United Nations and the realities faced by people on the ground.
