Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has said national unity and coordination are essential to counter violent extremism.

Responding to a question during the Question Hour in the Senate today, he said religious scholars also have an important responsibility in this regard.

He informed the House that a Counter Violent Extremism Cell has been established and a third-party audit system has been put in place to assess the outreach and dissemination of the narrative generated by the Cell.

Attaullah Tarar said a fully functional digital communication department is working under the Cell to counter extremist narratives through digital media.

He said Paigham-e-Aman Committee, comprising scholars from all schools of thought, is actively working to promote peace and counter extremism.

Referring to the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Attaullah Tarar said cooperation between the federal government and the province is vital for improving the law and order situation.

The Minister for Information said the recent meeting of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the Prime Minister is a positive development that will help strengthen coordination.

He said this cooperation would convey a message of unity and help reject terrorist narratives and eliminate terrorism.

The Senate today passed The Privatization Commission (Amended) Bill, 2025.

The Senate has now been adjourned to meet again on Friday at 10:30 in the morning.
