Doctors say India must prepare for an 'onslaught' of coronavirus cases
April 04, 2020

In India, top doctors in an interview with CNN warned the country must prepare to face an "onslaught" of coronavirus cases that could cripple the health system to levels far beyond what Europe and the United States are experiencing due to pandemic.

The warning came after a death of a 56-year-old man due to Covid-19- in Dharavi slum, in the Indian financial capital of Mumbai.

Home to around 1 million people, Dharavi slum has a population density almost 30 times greater than New York .Doctors say the situation would be unmanageable if a sustained coronavirus outbreak spread rapidly through one of India's many slums.

Cases in India nearly doubled in last four days, bringing the total to 2,547 and 62 deaths.
