The Special Investment Facilitation Council should focus on short to medium term goals

Dr Aliya H. Hashmi (Economist): If an investment friendly environment is created, every foreign businessman will be interested to invest his money here. Pakistan is grappling with a number of challenges. First is political uncertainty due to which businesspeople are not sure about the continuity in policies. This can erode business confidence. Globally, the world is recovering after Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukraine-Russia war has created pressure on global markets. The caretaker government after realizing the gravity of economic situation is giving signals to take hard economic steps. Hopefully, currency markets will stabilize in the coming days. The Special Investment Facilitation Council should focus on short to medium term goals as the mandate of caretaker government is limited and the next elected government can take devise long term policies.
