Prominent international daily the New York Times reports that the BJP government in India's Assam state has decided to ban Islamic schools in an attempt to crush Muslims' freedom and identity in the Hindu majority country.

The paper reports that BJP led Assam government has passed a law to abolish over 700 Islamic schools in the state by April next year.                    

Meanwhile, more than 100 retired senior civil servants and diplomats have urged the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh to repeal a new law criminalizing forced religious conversion of women.
