The United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres has reiterated the world body's commitment to support the government and people of Afghanistan in their efforts to achieve peace and stability.

In a statement after an attack on the United Nations’ compound in Herat, he said such attacks against the UN personnel and facilities are prohibited under international law and may amount to war crimes.

The Head of UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, Deborah Lyons has also called the attack deplorable.
