
Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that the Supreme Court verdict on the petition challenging the extension of Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa is the victory of democracy and it would help strengthening institutions.
Talking to media flanked by Attorney General of Pakistan Anwar Mansoor Khan, former Minister for Law and Justice Dr Farogh Naseem and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Accountability Mirza Shahzad Akbar, she said that the judgment has provided the opportunity to rectify the lacunas in the existing laws and remove them with necessary legislation.
She said the petition challenging the extension of COAS's tenure must not be linked with any particular personality.
To a question, she said the re-induction of former Minister for Law and Justice Dr Farogh Naseem in the federal cabinet is the prerogative of the Prime Minister.
Speaking on the occasion, Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan said the decision has asked the government to clearly specify the terms and conditions of service of the Army Chief through an Act of Parliament.
He said Prime Minister Imran Khan strongly believes in rule of law and the Constitution.
The Attorney General said it would be an honor for the government to make legislation over this matter to settle the issue once and for all.
