Speakers at a seminar held in New York in connection with Kashmir Black Day have emphasized that lasting peace in South Asia would remain elusive until the Jammu and Kashmir dispute is resolved in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
The seminar was jointly organized by the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations and the Consulate General of Pakistan in New York.
The speakers paid tribute to Kashmiri people who have endured decades of occupation and repression. They also described the struggle of the Kashmiri people as one for justice, human dignity and the inalienable right to self-determination.
They said enduring freedom struggle underscores the special responsibility of the United Nations to uphold its Charter and implement its relevant Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.
The speaker said the UN resolutions remain central to achieving a peaceful settlement, including the realization of the Kashmiri people's right to determine their future through a free and impartial plebiscite.
Acting Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN, Usman Jadoon, Consul General Aamer Ahmed Atozai, Secretary General Kashmir Awareness Forum, Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, and others addressed the seminar.
Prominent Kashmiri political leaders, human rights advocates, diplomats, students and members of the Pakistani and Kashmiri diaspora participated in the ceremony.
