Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has congratulated Barrister Iftikhar Gilani on his election as Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement, he expressed hope that Barrister Iftikhar Gilani would play an effective role in the development of Azad Kashmir and the welfare of its people.

Shehbaz Sharif said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's victory in AJK was the result of the hard work of the party leadership, particularly Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, and party workers.

He said the federal government would continue extending all possible support for the development, prosperity and improved living standards of the people of Azad Kashmir.

The Prime Minister also termed the continuation of the democratic process in Azad Jammu and Kashmir a welcome development.
