The Council of Common Interests, while articulating national aspirations, has imparted a resolute message of unity and solidarity in response to India's illegal actions and any aggression.
The Council which met in Islamabad on Monday, with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in the chair, has strongly condemned India's irresponsible actions after the Pahalgam incident.
All provincial chief ministers unanimously expressed unity and national solidarity against India's illegal actions.
The Council emphasized that Pakistan has the right to protect its water interests in the event of suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and blocking Pakistan's water.
The Council also endorsed the policy of the federal government that no new canals will be built until mutual understanding is evolved among the provinces.
It decided to constitute a committee with representation of the federation and all provinces to allay the concerns of all provinces and to ensure Pakistan's food and ecological security.
The committee will propose solutions to Pakistan's long term agriculture needs and water use of all provinces in line with the Water Apportionment Accord-1991 and Water Policy-2018.
The Council also decided to return the provisional ECNEC approval of February last year for construction of new canals and the IRSA water availability certificate issued in January last year.
Planning Division and IRSA have been directed to ensure consultation with all stakeholders, in the interest of national cohesion and to address any and all concerns until mutual understanding is reached.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Defense Khawaja Asif, Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam and provincial chief ministers attended the meeting.
