Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has felicitated the newly elected office bearers of the Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists.

In a statement today, he said the government remains firmly committed to protect freedom of expression and independence of journalism.

The Minister said media organizations play a pivotal role in promoting democratic values and safeguarding independent journalism.

He assured to continue extending all possible cooperation for the welfare of the journalist community and capacity building of media professionals.

The Minister expressed hope that the new RIUJ leadership would play an effective role in protecting the rights of journalists and strengthening the organization.

Secretary Information Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil and Principal Information Officer Mobashir Hassan also extended their heartiest congratulations to the elected body of the RIUJ.

It is worth mentioning that Asif Bashir Chaudhry has been elected President; Bashir Usmani, General Secretary; Izhar Khan Niazi, Finance Secretary; Tauseef Abbasi and Rashid Malik, Vice Presidents; and Raja Imran Janjua along with Rana Farhan Aslam, Joint Secretaries of the RIUJ.
