In the United States, a congressman has termed Indian Congress Party leader Rahul Gandhi's disqualification as a Parliamentarian a deep betrayal of democracy.

In a tweet, the congressman Ro Khanna, who is of Indian origin called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reverse this decision.

He said the expulsion of Rahul Gandhi from parliament is a deep betrayal of Gandhian philosophy and India's deepest values.

Rahul Gandhi lost his Lok Sabha seat after he was convicted by a lower court in a defamation case and sentenced to two years in jail.
