In Israel, tens of thousands of protesters blocked a highway in Tel Aviv as police scuffle with crowds in front of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in Jerusalem.

The protesters took to the streets in a spontaneous outburst of anger after Netanyahu abruptly fired his Defence Minister for challenging his judicial overhaul plan.

Meanwhile, Israel's Consul General in New York, Asaf Zamir has announced his resignation in protest over firing of Defense Minister. In a tweet, Zamir said he can no longer represent this government after this dangerous decision and that he is concerned with the policies of the new government.
