National Disaster Management Authority launched a set of key Inclusive Disaster Risk Management Initiatives today.
The initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of population groups most affected by disasters, including women, children, older persons, persons with disabilities, transgender persons and economically challenged communities.
The initiatives reaffirm Pakistan's commitment to accessible, equitable and people-centred disaster management.
The first initiative namely Inclusive Early Warnings introduces multi-format alert systems such as sign language, audio, visual and easy-to-read formats to improve preparedness and timely response for persons with disabilities and older persons.
The second initiative- Community Engagement and Accountability Framework provides a structured mechanism for information-sharing, feedback and participation of affected communities.
The third initiative- Revised National Policy Guidelines for Vulnerable Groups in Disasters strengthens national guidance for inclusive planning, data, services and protection for marginalized groups.
On the occasion, Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik highlighted the Authority's focus on ensuring inclusive access to disaster information, services and decision-making.
The event brought together federal government officials, development partners, humanitarian organizations and civil society representatives who discussed pathways for operationalization and scale-up of the initiatives.
