The Provincial Disaster Management Authority Punjab has issued a high-level flood warning due to the rising water flow in River Sutlej at Ferozepur.
According to the PDMA Punjab Spokesperson, River Sutlej at Ferozepur downstream is experiencing a high flood situation and water level in the river as well as adjoining streams and drains are expected to rise further.
The PDMA has directed all Deputy Commissioners concerned to remain high alert. Alerts have also been issued to the Commissioners of Lahore, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan, as well as to the Deputy Commissioners of Kasur, Okara, Pakpattan, Vehari, Bahawalnagar, Lodhran, Bahawalpur, Multan and Muzaffargarh.
The DG PDMA Punjab, Irfan Ali Kathia, said in line with the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, all necessary arrangements must be completed without delay.
He urged the people to fully cooperate with the district administration and rescue agencies.
He said people can contact PDMA’s helpline at 1129 in case of any emergency.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority of Punjab, on the advance alert issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), has started large-scale evacuation operations in the areas near River Sutlej due to increasing water level.
According to NDMA, about one lac fifty thousand people have been shifted to safer places so far from flood-prone areas by the PDMA Punjab.
As per the details, more than fourteen thousand people have been evacuated to safer places from Kasur, while over two thousand have been shifted to safer places from Okara.
Similarly, nearly ninety thousand people have been shifted from Bahawalnagar, 361 people from sensitive areas of Bahawalpur to safer places.
More than one hundred sixty people have been moved from Vehari and nearly nine hundred people from Pakpattan to safer places by the PDMA Punjab.
The NDMA has already issued directives to the relevant agencies and emergency services to remain on high alert due to rising water level in rivers, and nullah across the province.
