In Venezuela, the death toll from two powerful back-to-back earthquakes has risen to five hundred and eighty-nine, while more than three thousand people have been injured.

Rescuers are searching the rubble in Caracas and the state of La Guaira, where the United Nations says more than one hundred buildings have collapsed in the tremors.
